Now Christmas is nearly here, it’s time to make sure your appliances are in top condition. Nothing will disrupt your Christmas Day lunch or New Year’s Eve party like a broken oven, fridge or dishwasher 

Make sure your oven is clean and in full working order 

It’s essential to have a sparkling clean oven before you start cooking any festive feasts. If your oven is dirty, burnt food deposits can impact the taste of your food and create an unpleasant smoky atmosphere in your kitchen. It can also be a health hazard, with food deposits harbouring dirt, bacteria and other harmful agents. Extremely dirty ovens can also be a fire hazard, so it’s important to clean your oven before your Christmas cooking begins.  

If you’ve noticed that your oven isn’t working properly, now is the time to get it fixed. Whether it’s a faulty light, slow heating time or temperamental burners, get them repaired before they impact your Christmas festivities. 

Get faulty dishwashers repaired 

If your dishwasher isn’t working properly, get it repaired now to save an unending mountain of washing up on Christmas Day. Key signs your dishwasher needs repairing includes rust, cracks, drainage problems, leaking, unusual noises and dishes remaining dirty after a cycle. Often, dishwashers will only require a new part or minor repair work, so you might not need to invest in a whole new dishwasher. 

Dishwashers only have a lifespan of around eight to ten years, so if your dishwasher is nearing the end of its life, it’s a good idea to replace it ahead of the Christmas season. 

Clean and create space in your fridge freezer 

Your fridge and freezer will be working their hardest at Christmas time when they are likely to be at their fullest and in high demand. Create space in your fridge and freezer ahead of time to make room for festive treats and turkeys. Whilst they are at their emptiest, use the opportunity to give your appliances a deep clean – it’s surprising how much dirt can be hiding in your fridge and freezer so it’s important to clean them regularly.  

This is also the time to get your fridge or freezer looked at by a professional if there are any indications that it might need repairing. Signs these appliances have a fault include leaking, excessive noise and food going bad before its best by date.
